Tomatina in Spain

Spain is in news due to La Tomatina.Great spain news is that they celebrate tomato festival on the last Wednesday of August. Let me describe this Spain news and tell you more about the tomato festival.
La Tomatina festival in Spain is the biggest tomato fight in the world. It is held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Bunol near Valencia. Till now, it has a history of more than 60 years. It has been a strong tradition since the first festival started in a casual way in the year of 1945.There is no political or religious significance. The festival is in memory of the town’s patron saints.
On the Wednesday morning, shopkeepers and business owners along the plaza cover their doors and windows to prevent them from the frenzy onslaught. Then the first event of the festival starts. People climb up a greased pole with a ham at the top. Once someone releases it, several Lorries full of tomatoes will arrive to dump ripe tomatoes for participants. The firing of water cannons works as the signal for the beginning of the fight. Then an hour of tomatoes warfare starts. It is good for those who take part in the event to wear protective gears such as safety goggles and gloves. However, anyone with camera or hats will be considered as primary target. During that one hour, everyone should obey a small number of rules for safety. For example, people must squish the tomatoes before throwing and participants can not throw anything other those tomatoes.
Every year tens of thousands of people from all over the world come to take part in the event. Tones of tomatoes are hurled. Some people may think that those wasted tomatoes could have fed hungry mouths. But the tomatoes which come from Extremadura are not tasty for consumption. They are grown especially for the tomato festival. The tomato fight is celebrated annually and has become one of the most well know festivals.
